In a landmark event at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, on May 7, 2024, Dr. Ponsiano Kanijo (MUCE), alongside his esteemed team comprising Dr. Rasmus Bernander from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Prof. Maud Devos from the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Belgium, and Prof. Dr. Gilles-Maurice de Schryver from Ghent University, Belgium, launched their ambitious research endeavour on Swahili modality.

UDASA-MUCE Hosts Symposium and Debate on the Role of Academicians in Interpreting the Tanganyika-Zanzibar Union

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly (UDASA) at Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) organized a symposium accompanied by a debate. Enhancing Guidance and Counseling Skills to Foster a Supportive and Inclusive Learning Environment

Mkwawa University college of Education (MUCE) hosted an event to commemorate the International Chinese Language Day, which was held on 23th April 2024. The event was attended by MUCE management, led by Prof. Deusdedit A. Rwehumbiza – MUCE Acting Principal, Dr. Zhang Xiaozhen - Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute and MUCE staff and students. Faculty of Education Secures Consultancy Worth 18 Million Tanzanian Shillings

We are thrilled to announce that the Faculty of Education has successfully secured a consultancy contract valued at 18 million Tanzanian shillings. The consultancy aims to conduct a comprehensive study on the "Barriers to Access and Use of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Services among Vulnerable Households in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar."

 

Academic Appointments in the Faculty of Education

We extend hearty congratulations to Dr. Hassan Iddy on his appointment as the Coordinator of the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI). Joining him in leadership is Dr. Eunice Ndomondo, who assumes the role of Deputy Coordinator of CERI. Both appointments, effective from 1st January 2024, signify a new chapter of innovation and excellence within our research endeavors.

Dr. Japhace Poncian Secures Grant for Regional Research Project

This collaborative endeavor spans four African countries: Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo

In a significant achievement for our academic community, Dr. Japhace Poncian, a Senior Lectuerer in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, has secured a grant totaling £1,700,000 as part of a pivotal research project focusing on African Extractivism and the Green Transition.

Celebrating Prof. Jaquiline Amani Moshi's Promotion

In recognising Prof. Jaquiline Amani Moshi’s promotion from Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor, the College Management, led by the College Acting Principal, Prof. Deusdedit A. Rwehumbiza, organised a special event to extend heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Moshi for reaching this milestone. The event was held at MUCE on 7th March 2024.

The promotion of Prof. Moshi was approved by the Council of the University of Dar es Salaam on 15th December 2023.

MUCE Scholar Dr. Edson B. Ishengoma and Cambridge's Dr Emília Santos Secure Prestigious Cambridge – Africa ALBORADA Research Fund 2023

In a remarkable achievement this year, our brilliant faculty member, Dr. Edson B. Ishengoma, a Lecturer in Zoology, has teamed up with Dr Emília Santos of Cambridge University to secure the prestigious Cambridge – Africa ALBORADA Research Fund 2023. Their groundbreaking project, "Adaptive Genomic Diversity of Tanzanian Riverine Cichlids in Light of Climatic and Anthropogenic Stressors," stood out among 32 selected projects across Africa. Impressively, it's one of just seven from East Africa and only two from Tanzania.
