The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), of which MUCE is a part of it, has been at the forefront of promoting cutting-edge research and innovation. Since 2015, UDSM has been organizing the Research and Innovation Week (RIW), formerly known as Research Week (RW), to showcase competitive research results and foster a culture of innovation.

Research and Innovation Week (RIW) serves as a platform for bringing together diverse groups of researchers, both within the university and beyond. The primary goal is to facilitate the exchange of ideas, share scholarly and creative research work, and highlight some of the best research outputs and innovations. This annual event has become a cornerstone of the academic calendar, fostering a spirit of collaboration and excellence.

The UDSM RIW events kick off at the unit level, where various departments, schools, colleges, and institutes participate. These unit-level events are followed by a grand University-wide celebration. During these events, the University community comes together to recognize and honour outstanding students, faculty members, and academic units for their contributions to cutting-edge scholarly and creative research activities.

In the year 2024, MUCE hosted the UDSM RIW from 17th to 19th April, showcasing its own outstanding research and innovation efforts. The university-level celebration took place from 5th to 7th June 2024.
