Application Steps
- Step 1: Choose Your Course – Start by browsing our website to find a course that aligns with your interests and career goals. Click here to access all courses offered.
- Step 2: Complete the Application Form – Download the application form; provide personal details (name, contact information, and nationality if applicable) and indicate which course you are applying for.
- Step 3: Submit Required Documents – attach a Copy of an identification document (e.g. passport or national ID); provide proof of prior language knowledge (only if required; for example, if you are joining an intermediate level for Swahili on-site); attach a passport-sized photograph.

- Step 6: Orientation Session – Once enrolled, attend a short orientation session (on-site or online) to familiarize yourself with the course structure, materials, and instructors.
Fee and other costs:
Candidates selected to pursue the various degree programmes offered at MUCE are required to pay tuition and other costs by the beginning of the first semester before they can be permitted to use the College facilities.
Swahili courses:
In all on-site courses, each level runs for 3 months (twelve weeks). We charge USD 11 per hour for twelve weeks. If you wish to undertake the course for eight weeks, we charge USD 12 per hour. For those who want to undertake the course for six weeks or four weeks, we charge USD 13 or USD 17 per hour, respectively. The suggested number of hours spent per week is shown under Schedule.
English and French Courses:
- – Basic level: TZS 200,000 for local students and USD 100 for foreign students
- – Intermediate: TZS 250,000 for local students and USD 120 for foreign students
- –Advanced: TZS 300,000 for local students and USD 150 for foreign students
Chinese Language and Culture:
This course has three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced, and each level has two sublevels, labelled Level 1 and Level 2. All levels are free for all MUCE students. Other candidates are charged TZS 300,000 for each sublevel.
Registration Fee:
A one-time registration fee of TZS 10,000 for local students or USD 15 is required for all new students.

- – Swahili course packs include culturally relevant materials for foreigners.
- – Chinese course packs include both language textbooks and cultural notes on customs, traditions, and basic calligraphy.
Online Courses:
Currently, the department offers an online format exclusively for the Basic (Introductory) Level of Swahili.
Facts about the course:
- – Our course is designed around a teaching manual that encompasses ten core topics, each reflecting key cultural aspects of Swahili-speaking communities. These topics have been validated by BAKITA to ensure accuracy and cultural authenticity.
- – Lessons are enriched with videos, audio clips, and animations to facilitate listening comprehension, pronunciation practice, and contextual learning.
- – Each lesson follows a clear structure—lesson title, objective, dialogues/stories/songs (provided in Swahili with English translations), vocabulary lists, culture tips, grammar tips, practice exercises, and assignments.

Swahili course:
All course durations consist of the same total hours (48 hours) but are compressed differently according to the chosen weeks. The total contact hours for this course in each week are shown below:
- – 12-Week Option (4 hours per week)
- – 8-Week Option (6 hours per week)
- – 6-Week Option (8 hours per week)
- – 4-Week Option (12 hours per week)

Holidays and Breaks:
All on-site courses observe local public holidays.
Certificate of Completion:
All learners who successfully complete our short courses will receive an official Certificate of Completion. The certificate will include the learner’s full name, the title of the course, the date of completion, and any applicable credits or professional development hours earned.
