Biography

Dr. Geofrey Sikazwe is a Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam - Mkwawa University College of Education, Tanzania, with an outstanding contribution to mathematical modelling in ecology.  His innovative research has significantly advanced our understanding of ecological systems, demonstrating the profound impact of mathematical tools in solving complex environmental issues. With a PhD training in Applied Mathematics at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, Dr. Sikazwe’s work has enhanced academic knowledge, providing practical solutions for sustainable environmental management.

  • Principal Investigator: Modelling cassava brown streak epidemics across multiple scales: from the lab, through the field to landscape, at the University of Cambridge, from 2015 to 2018, with financial support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Completed.
  • Principal Investigator: Modelling coinfecting plant viruses in the presence of climate change, at Stellenbosch University, from 2021 to 2024, supported by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, with financial support from the Government of Canada, provided through Global Affairs Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Completed.
