Biography
Dr. Oscar Joel Magava is a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Foundations and Management at Mkwawa University College of Education, a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He is an educationist specialised in Educational Management and Administration. Magava’s research interests include policy studies in education; management of education and school administration; planning, qualitative research methods, administrative and organisational behaviour, and human resource management in education; school governance; project planning and management in education. He holds Doctorate Degree in Education Management and Administration with particular focus on primary educational policies in Tanzania, graduated in 2015, from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Before that, Dr. Magava studied Bachelor of Education in Arts majoring in Linguistics and Education from 2003 to 2007 and an M. A in Education from 2007 to 2009 both from the University of Dar es Salaam. He teaches courses in Educational Policy, Planning, Leadership, Management and Administration; and Qualitative Research Methods in Education. Before joining the University teaching Magava worked as an Education Officer I at Kilolo District, Iringa Region-Tanzania. During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Magava worked shortly practising teaching English in secondary schools and Educational Foundations and Management in Teacher Colleges in Tanzania.

2026: Principal investigator to the proposed project on “Pathways to Strengthening Equity and Inclusion in Secondary School Leadership Positions in Rural Tanzania” to be funded by African centre for School Leadership (ACSL) upon approval. 2019: National Facilitator for Teacher Education Support Project-TESP. The project, jointly funded by Canada and Tanzania, conducts In-Service trainings to tutors from Teacher Colleges in Tanzania with the aim of equipping them with necessary skills of training competent teachers in their subjects of specializations. I facilitate trainings in English Subject and in other management and administrative issue in educational institutions. 2014-2019: National Facilitator for Kigoma and Katavi Regions to Education Quality Improvement Programme in Tanzania (EQUIP-T), a DFID (Department for International Development-UK)-funded programme managed by Cambridge Education, a member of the Mott MacDonald Group.
