UDASA-MUCE Hosts Symposium and Debate on the Role of Academicians in Interpreting the Tanganyika-Zanzibar Union

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly (UDASA) at Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) organized a symposium accompanied by a debate. The event aimed to discuss the role of academics in interpreting the hopes, efforts, and realities of the Union for Tanzanians.

Held on April 26, 2024, at the MUCE auditorium, the symposium brought together scholars and academics, including lecturers from universities in the Iringa region and students from these institutions. During the debate, the academics elaborated on and discussed the contributions, significance, and transformations resulting from the Tanganyika-Zanzibar Union in education, employment, science and technology, and security over the past 60 years. The symposium highlighted the benefits of the Union, signed in 1964, including the opening of economic and tourism opportunities, enhancing international respect, maintaining peace and unity, and addressing security issues.
