Entry Requirements | General Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission A candidate shall be deemed eligible for consideration for admission to a Bachelor of Science in Climate Change and Natural Resources Management if he/she has one of the following qualifications: a. Direct Entry: Two principal level passes, one must be in the following subjects: Geography, Biology, and Agriculture. b. Equivalent Qualifications: Diploma in Wildlife, Forestry, Environmental Resources, Environmental Management, Community Development, Environmental Science, and other related disciplines recognised by UDSM Senate with an average of “B+’’ or a minimum GPA of 3.5. |
Programme description | Programme Objectives and Philosophy The BScCCNRM programme is built on the philosophy that tackling climate change demands a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach. The programme combines scientific knowledge, practical skills, and sustainable practices to prepare graduates for the complex challenges linking climate change and natural resource management. Also, the curriculum promotes critical thinking, technical competence, and problem-solving abilities, with a strong focus on environmental systems, climate impacts, and sustainable solutions. Moreover, students will gain insight into policy frameworks, the role of communities, and the social, economic, and cultural dimensions of climate action. By blending theory with practical experience, the program equips learners with the tools and knowledge to apply innovative, research-based solutions to real-world issues. Emphasizing global responsibility, the program prepares graduates to participate in international climate efforts and advocate for equity and justice in environmental decision-making. Its ultimate goal is to develop leaders committed to managing natural resources sustainably in a changing climate.
Programme Objectives (i) Build capacity on the causes and effects of climate change and viable adaptation and mitigation strategies. (ii) Provide knowledge of natural resources management (iii) Inculcate practical skills in managing conflicts from natural resources utilization. (iv) Equip knowledge and skills in implementing policies, legal frameworks, and international agreements to address climate change and natural resources issues. (v) Develop skills in adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate change. (vi) Develop project development and management skills in climate change and natural resources. (vii) Provide knowledge and skills integrating human population, climate change, and natural resources management. |
Programme structure | BScCNRM is a three-year programme structured into six semesters, comprising a blend of core and elective courses and a practical component. |
Assessment | The programme assessment will be based on a combination of continuous assessment and a final examination. For theory courses, coursework will carry 40%, and the final examination will carry 60% of the total marks, while for method courses, coursework and final examination both will carry 50% each. Practical Training will also be assessed in accordance with the UDSM practical training regulations and procedures (2023). |
