Dr. Deodatus Justice Rutagwerela is a senior academic and linguist specializing in Kiswahili linguistics, Bantu languages linguistics and General linguistics. He holds a PhD in Kiswahili Linguistics and has over twenty years of university teaching experience across multiple higher education institutions. His academic profile reflects sustained excellence in linguistics research, undergraduate postgraduate supervision and language education.
His research engages with both theoretical and applied perspectives in linguistics, with a strong focus on Kiswahili within the Bantu language family. His scholarly interests include Phonetics, phonology, morphology, semantics and pragmatics, sociolinguistics, language and education, language and politics and applied linguistics, with particular emphasis on second language acquisition, Kiswahili as a second language, and language pedagogy in multilingual contexts. Dr. Deodatus’s work contributes to ongoing debates in African language studies, language policy, and linguistic theory and practice.
