What to expect when you land in Tanzania? Curious about the climate, healthcare, and ways to make the most of your free time? Embarking on a new chapter in a new country often comes with a myriad of questions. Fortunately, we're here to provide you with answers.

To reach Iringa, your first step is to fly into either Dar es Salaam or Kilimanjaro, both of which are international airports welcoming guests from abroad. Once you're in Dar es Salaam, you can catch a domestic flight to Iringa using local airlines or opt for a scenic bus ride. If you've arrived in Kilimanjaro, there are also bus options available to take you to Iringa. Upon your arrival in Iringa, you'll disembark at the Igumbilo bus stop, from where you can easily access public transportation or hire a taxi to your accommodation. There are also many buses these days which have their bus stops in the centre of the Iringa Municipality. Contact the Internationalization Office for help and additional information.

Navigating Iringa is a breeze, with several public transportation choices at your disposal. One popular and convenient option is the 'bajaji,' which is a three-wheeled motorized vehicle perfect for getting around town. The College is conveniently situated about 4 kilometers from the municipal centre, making it easy to access essential services like banks and markets. Furthermore, the College provides a Health Centre right within the campus to ensure your well-being during your stay.

Climatic Condition

Temperature in MUCE and Iringa Municipality in general is influenced by altitude that it is relatively low throughout the year. The mean annual temperature is about 19oC while the coolest months of the year are June and July with average temperatures ranging from 11oC to 22oC. By contrast, December is the warmest month of the year with temperatures rising ranging from 15oC to 28oC. During the rains, extra cloud cover and evaporative cooling tend to reduce maximum temperatures. Cloud cover also tend to raise minimum temperatures.

MUCE and Iringa Municipal Council in general experiences only one rainy season, which is usually from December to May. Annual average rainfall is about 600mm. The seasonal rains range between December and May every year. The rains are usually reliable and favors the greenery of the University College.

The speed of wind in Iringa Municipal Council where MUCE is located is 7.1 kilometres per hour that often blows between September to February. The air is relatively calm and as result, pollutants discharge into air remain in the layer especially within nearby housing areas of the town centre. High speedy winds blow at about 10.2 kilometres per hour during the month of March to August, hence cleaning much of polluted air in the environment. Winds and humidity of Iringa Municipal Council is influenced by various landforms which is predominantly hilly and undulating topography. These highlands are found Gangilonga, Kigonzile, Mawelewele, Wilolesi, Mafifi, Chautinde and Luhota.

While MUCE does provide hostels for students, please note that they may not be sufficient to accommodate all students. Additionally, the College has a guest quarter, but it's essential to book well in advance to secure your stay.
