I’m an Associate Professor and Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Kabale University – Uganda. I have been at MUCE as a Visiting Professor in the Department of History, Political Science and Development Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

General impressions at MUCE

• Academic Quality Assurance Mechanism at MUCE is excellent. The busy environment on campus is laudable. Keeping university students engaged and focused in many universities is difficult, but MUCE does it. Lecturers are always available and focused too. When they are not available on campus to teach for one reason or another, they coordinate with colleagues to take on their classes. They don't dodge courses, and there are minimal students dodging in class. I like seeing students in discussion groups throughout the day and night, including on weekends.

• Recruiting tutorial assistants who are mentored to higher positions is a wonderful culture that ensures the retention of academic staff and loyalty to the institution. On top of that, they are supported by the university management to acquire higher qualifications. I met a number of colleagues who started as tutorial assistants at MUCE and are now advancing to being promoted to associate professors. Teaching assistants are important because they support the course instructor to ensure the effective delivery of the required materials and foster a positive learning environment.

All these experiences have made me confirm that Tanzania is one of my favourite African countries if I had any doubt. People are very friendly and helpful, and polite to visitors. I have learned a lot from being a visiting scholar. I am happy to have decided to ‘escape’ my comfort zone to come here and experience a new environment.

As a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of Dar es Salaam, Mkwawa, I am committed to fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of language in my students. We understand the importance of a comfortable and secure living environment for our students. Our College provides accommodation spaces for up to 1,150 students. We prioritize new students and female students, ensuring they have convenient on-campus housing options. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the university experience.

If on-campus spaces are not available, the vibrant community surrounding the College offers alternative accommodation options at reasonable costs. Many students find suitable housing in the nearby area.

First Semester

It begins on 6th November 2023 and ends on 1st March 2024. The registration for continuing students begins on 6th November 2023 and ends on 17th November 2023. The lecture session ends on 15th February 2024. The mid-semester breather begins on 23rd December 2023 and ends on 29th December 2023.

First semester exams begin on 16th February 2024 and end on 1st March 2024. The inter-semester break starts on 2nd March 2024 and ends on 23rd March 2024.

Second Semester

It begins on 23rd March 2024 and ends on 19th July 2024. The lecture session ends on 4th July 2024.

Practical training and Teaching Practice

"Kickstart Your Journey: Orientation Week at MUCE!"

Our Orientation Week Programme is a comprehensive one-week event designed exclusively for new students like you. This dedicated week is your opportunity to familiarize yourself with the university's rules and regulations, immerse yourself in university life, discover the array of services available to support you, and commence the registration process for your chosen courses. During this significant week, registration takes place online through the ARIS 3 platform. Orientation Week commences immediately after the university's opening, providing you with a solid foundation before classes officially begin in the following week. This week is not to be missed, as it plays a pivotal role in preparing you for university life. We encourage you to keep an eye on the events section for a detailed schedule of activities and programmes throughout Orientation Week. Welcome to the beginning of your exciting academic journey!

Orientation/registration: For 2023/2024 Academic Year, Fresh entrants report on 28th October 2023. Their orientation week begins on 30th October 2023 and ends on 4th November 2023. Registration begins on 30th November 2023 and ends on 10th November 2023.

HOW TO APPLY

Below, we outline the step-by-step instructions you'll need to follow when applying for a programme or course. We kindly ask you to read and follow these guidelines carefully to ensure a smooth application experience.

Application Steps

Step 1: Start by browsing our website to find the programme or course that aligns with your interests and career goals.
Step 2: Review the entry requirements listed alongside each programme or course to ensure you meet the criteria.
Step 3: Once you've found the perfect fit, proceed to apply online. Create an account on our university website, complete the online application after filling your details and paying the application fee (TZS 10,000 for undergraduate programmes and 50,000 for postgraduate programmes), and submit it. Step 4: After your application is submitted, stay tuned for the Notification of Selection Results. We'll send you an update on the outcome of your application directly to your account. If you've been admitted, you'll need to confirm the programme you applied for.

Fee and other costs

Candidates selected to pursue the various degree programmes offered at MUCE are required to pay tuition and other costs by the beginning of the first semester before they can be permitted to use the College facilities.

Fees for bachelor’s degree programmes

We take pride in offering quality education at affordable rates. Our tuition fees are designed to ensure that education remains accessible to all aspiring students. The annual tuition fee for the Bachelor of Education in Arts and Bachelor of Arts with Education is TZS 1,000,000 (USD 2,100), while for the Bachelor of Education in Science and Bachelor of Science with Education, it is TZS 1,300,000 (USD 2,700).

In addition to the tuition fee, students are required to cover the following costs, which totals to 97,400.

• ID fee: 5,000 TZS
• Registration (one-time): 5,000 TZS
• Examination Fee: 12,000 TZS
• Medical Capitation Fees: 50,400 TZS
• Student Union Fee: 5,000 TZS
• TCU Commission: 20,000 TZS

Fees for postgraduate degree programmes

Our tuition fees vary for different postgraduate programmes. For the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, the cost is TZS 2,600,000 for Tanzanians and USD 3,075 for Non-Tanzanians. If you're enrolling in a Master of Arts with Education in the Geography stream or a Master of Science in Natural Resources and Human Security Studies, the tuition fee is TZS 4,000,000 for Tanzanians and USD 6,150 for Non-Tanzanians. For all other postgraduate programs, the tuition fee is TZS 4,250,000 for Tanzanians and USD 6,150 for Non-Tanzanians.

Scholarships

All admitted students are responsible for securing their own sponsorship, as the College does not provide sponsorship. Tanzanian students who have been admitted have the option to explore funding through loans from the Higher Education Students Loans Board (HESLB), provided they meet the HESLB criteria for loans.

Alternatively, students may choose to privately fund their education by covering the tuition fees themselves.

MUCE provides a selection of seven international postgraduate programmes, all taught in English. When you enroll with us, you'll benefit from dedicated supervisors to guide your academic journey. Elevate your career by joining MUCE today! All programmes (except a Master of Science in Applied Zoology and a Master of Science in Applied Botany) are offered by Coursework and Dissertation. Therefore, a student will be required to complete coursework before being allowed to proceed with the dissertation phase. All postgraduate degree programmes (except the Postgraduate Diploma in Education) run for 24 months commencing from October/November of each year. A Postgraduate Diploma in Education runs for 12 months.
